The Hollowdeck Writer’s Guild on the East Coast

100_2539The Hollowdeck Writer’s Guild on the East Coast

This vibrant community is full of multi-genre writers that meet regularly online in a variety of peer-led groups across Maryland and the East Coast. Max founded this Guild many years ago with the generosity and support of the friends and family of The Sophia Center, The Firedrake Guild and Welcome Home Farm, a serene and idyllic 46-acre farm in the hills of Western Maryland. For many years Max taught weekend classes on the farm three times a year supporting working writers from the Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, D.C., and Pennsylvania area.

While Max is not currently teaching writing classes in person in the East Coast community, writers are welcome in our on-line Book lectures, Bootcamp classes, retreats and intensives as well as on-line writing classes and workshops, we would love to see you there!  To check out the classes please visit the On-line classes and Bootcamp pages of this site and check out the Calendar page.

East Coast Guild Writing Weekends and the Annual November Retreat

IMG_1530In July and March of each year Max will host Sat and Sun weekend classes in support of the East Coast Guild. These Weekend Workshops are open to all members of the Hollowdeck East Coast Guild and to other by invitation. Weekend Workshops run Saturday and Sunday, usually from 12-5pm East Coast time. In these workshops we will continue our on-going work of talking and writing together, generating new ideas, investigating new themes and calling our most passionate work up to the surface of our lives. These sessions give us the chance to recommit to ourselves as writers and find ways to go deeper into our writing practice, whether we are working with memory, observation or imagination. Through conversation, in-class exercises, laughter and silence, we will experiment with a range of forms to get started in finding (or finding our way back) to our lives as writers. The goal is to dive headlong into the ecstatic business of writing and to begin a writing practice that is deeply connected to the lives we already lead.

Tuition is $125 for each day and can be paid by check or by using the Pay Pal link on the home page of this website. To check on dates for upcoming Weekend Workshops please visit the Calendar Page.

In November of each year Max will offers an Annual 4-day November Writing Retreat for members of the East Coast Guild and to other by invitation. These retreats have been taught in the past at the beach in the winter quiet and beauty of Fenwick Island Delaware. Since we cannot meet in person at this time the Retreat will be offered on-line. Tuition is $450.

To register please drop Max an email at hollowdeckpress@mac.com. Registration is limited. These weekend sessions are open to writers of any ability or genre. They offer the opportunity for on-going students to check-in and continue to pursue the projects they have underway, as well as welcoming new students into our community. Together we learn build skills, patterns and partnerships that sustain our work as writers. To see more about this retreat click here.
