images-2The Writer’s Craft Series is a series of individual 1-day classes, each designed to introduce students to a different subject, aspect of craft, technique or genre. Recent Writer’s Craft classes have been offered on: Filling Your Notebook, The Art of Poetry, The Art of Short Fiction, The Art of The Memoir, The Writer’s Roadmap, Making a Scene, etc. Classes are held upstairs in the Upper North Room at The Boulder Bookstore in downtown Boulder on Pearl Street walking mall. Please note: while we rent this space from the Boulder Bookstore, you must contact US to register, not the Bookstore. Some Writer’s Craft are taught by Max and others are taught by distinguished guest faculty from the Boulder/Denver literary community. Classes are 2.5 to 3hrs hrs long and tuition is $45 per class.

The Tuesday and Thursday Evening Writing Workshops are on-going groups of six to seven writers who meet weekly on Tuesdays from 5-7:30pm or on Thursdays from 4-6:30pm from Jan to April and from August to November. These weekly classes are designed to form small, supportive groups of working writers who talk, read, discuss, review each other’s work and write in class together every week. Writers currently enrolled in weekly Workshops have priority in registering for subsequent semesters and as a result it is rare that a seat opens up, but if you are interested in joining or being placed on the wait list please let us know and we will contact you if there is an opening. Tuition is $490 for a 10-session semester, usually held over a 9-week period.

The Annual Boulder June Writing Projects Retreat is a 10-day writing retreat held in Boulder for writers with a current project or idea. What if you had 10 days just to focus on your writing? We all have writing projects that end up “on the back burner” waiting for us to have a day off, a week’s vacation or an imagined “someday” during which we can pull out those files and notebooks, sit down, get organized and really get some writing done. But when those times arrive, they invariably fill up with other tasks and events, leaving us wondering if that project will ever see the light of day. This 10- day writing retreat is a chance to step out of your everyday lives, work and schedules, and dedicate some time to getting your writing project off the ground. We will meet together in small groups once a day to talk and strategize about the work that needs to be done. Together we will discuss your project and come up with a work-plan customized for each student. Every other evening we will hold a Salon to share a meal and hear some of your work-in-progress. Tuition includes two private sessions with Max to discuss your project in-depth, one at the beginning of the retreat and one at the end. By the end of the week each project should be more structured and well underway. This retreat is open to local students as well as those joining us from writing communities outside of Boulder. We welcome all your messy files, old journals, disorganized pages and wild ideas, no matter how tiny or gigantic. $1500 and registration is limited. For more information click here.

We are always welcoming new students into our community, so class rosters fill quickly. Tuition varies depending on the class. Payments can be made with cash, major credit card or check made out to Hollowdeck Press LLC. We are committed to serving our students by creating no-interest, flexible payment plans. Students can arrange payment plans directly with Max. Sorry, classes cannot be pro-rated.
