Hollowdeck Press - On-line Workshops

Writing Classes: Boulder Guild | Baltimore Guild | Houston Guild | On-line Workshops

On-line Writing Workshops

We offer three different kinds of On-Line Distance writing classes, open to any interested student, regardless of where you live. The goal of these classes is to create simple, productive, low-tech, e-mail-based venues in which writers might stay connected to their work and to one another. Not all of these classes will offered in every semester, so check the current class flyer at the link below, to see what is being offered this semester.

On-Line Distance Writing Workshop

This class is conducted via email. Monthly writing assignments are given and students in the class create two first drafts per month, sending them out to the other members of the class. Students give and receive written feedback each month by filling out a simple, 5-question Feedback Quiz. The class ends with a follow-up phone call with Max to discuss the work you did and talk about what comes next.

On-Line Distance Bootcamp Class

This class is conducted via email. Students are sent one writing exercise every day for 10 days. The goal is for each students to write 1000 first draft words a day, building a daily practice and ending up with 10,000 words total. Students are not required to send their daily work to their classmates, and they do not give or receive daily feedback. However they do send their daily writing to Max via email every night by 12:01. Max reads all the texts and at the end of the 10 days students have a follow-up phone call with Max to discuss the work.

On-Line 50/50 Class

This is the simplest and least expensive class we offer. The class is conducted entirely via email. Students are sent one writing exercise via email every day for 50 days. The goal is for each student to write one page of text a day, in any genre. Students write on their own, at their own pace, and are not required to send their work with Max or their classmates, or to give or receive feedback. There is a class blog where students can share their experiences and where Max will post ideas and strategies to keep you going. Optional follow-up phone calls with Max are available once the class is over, for an additional fee. This class is usually offered twice during the year.

Distance Content Editing and Private Coaching

For students who want to work one-on-one in developing a writing practice, finishing a project or starting one, Max can set up private coaching sessions to support you in moving forward. For folks who have a manuscript of body of work, Max provides Content Editing and evaluation to see where you are and what it will take to develop the work and reach your goals. Texts are exchanged via email and then we schedule a series of phone calls to discuss the work, the process and how to reach your individual goals as a writer.

As always, if this is the right class or opportunity for you, please contact Max and we can create a payment plan that meets your needs.
