Hollowdeck Press, LLC
is an independent, small literary press founded in Boulder, Colorado
in 1994 by Max Regan. We are committed to sustaining, honoring, publishing
and promoting creative work that investigates and expands the boundaries
of prose, poetry, monologue, performance, spoken word, gender, identity,
class, race, orientation, politics, physical ability and location. We
work with a diverse range of people who are dedicated to the art of living
as well as the art of writing.
Our commitment is to awaken the curiosity
and passion of those who love to write. We believe in creating honest,
skillful and non-competitive communities where writers support one another
in bringing their work to life. The foundation of these grassroots writing
communities is our desire to meet you where you are as a writer. It is
our belief that writing is a practice as well as a craft. We encourage
each individual to uncover the wisdom imbedded in their own imagination
and experience. We believe that writers must be willing to write in response
to and in conversation with the world around them and to find the unique
work that honors their own voice. We believe that fearlessness, honesty,
community, hard work and a big whopping sense of humor are the things
that sustain the writing life.
As writers, we are called both to write and to create
intentional lives in which our writing is always welcome. In other
words, we believe that life is way too short to not write what wants
and needs to be written.
Hollowdeck Press sponsors Writing Guilds for
working writers in Boulder, Colorado, Baltimore,
Maryland and Houston,
Texas. We offer a variety of classes: on-going
weekly classes, weekend classes, one-day classes, free classes, intensive
labs, visiting artist seminars, on-line distance workshops and museum
classes. We engage
writers working in any genre: from memoirs to stories, novels to experimental
texts and full manuscripts to the single, well-crafted poem.
We also
offer private coaching sessions for writers
who prefer to work one-on-one and content
editing for
those preparing manuscripts and texts for publication.
For writers who have a passion
for travel, we offer annual two-week writing
journeys to the city of
Prague in the Czech Republic, the island of St.
John in the US Virgin
Islands and to Melbourne, Australia and
Flinders Island in Tasmania.
Hollowdeck Press does not currently accept unsolicited
submissions, but we do occasionally sponsor publishing projects,
anthologies, exhibits and contests. For more information on our current
projects, please go to our documents page.
If you would like to be added to or removed
from our mailing and email list, please contact us. Our mailing
list is never used for anything other than Hollowdeck and literary
arts notices, and, needless to say, it is never for sale.
Occasionally a limited number of full or partial scholarships may be available
for low-income students. When these are available for a specific
class or semester, all students will be notified by email. If you
are interested in donating towards a full or partial scholarship
or award, please contact us.
